Automated Ultrasonic Testing
Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) is being used today in almost every industry from aerospace to pipeline inspections.
AUT's popularity is based on several key factors - increased safety, schedule improvements, increased production, creation of an auditable permanent record and speed.
Some of the AUT techniques being used are:
Phased Array Automated Ultrasonic Testing (PA-AUT)
-
Inspection of Pipeline Welds
-
Inspection of Dissimilar Metal Welds
-
Inspection of Conventional Welds
-
Inspection of Weld Butter
-
-
Conventional Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT)
The AUT process eliminates the radiation hazard associated with radiography, so the work area does not have to be cleared and production is not affected.
Incorporating phased array dramatically increased efficiency and reduced the cycle time between when a weld is complete and the disposition of the weld's acceptance is made.
AIT is presently using phased array technology for the inspection of small diameter pipe and tube welds for process piping. Small diameter pipe and tubing was previously inspected using only RT but is easily inspected using AIT's proprietary scanners, which meet the requirements of ASME Code Cases 181 and 2235, for using AUT in lieu of radiography or x-ray.
